Lead rein pony wanted — first pony for a 5-year-old
11.0–12.0hh · 8–18 yrs · up to £3,000
We need a genuine lead rein pony for our daughter, who is five and has been having lessons for a year. She is confident but small, so we are looking for something narrow that she can sit on comfortably. The pony must be bombproof in traffic, easy to catch in a field and good to have its feet done. We are not looking to compete — just quiet hacking and Pony Club rallies.
Says what the child can actually do, and what the pony must tolerate.

First ridden pony wanted — off the lead rein
12.0–13.0hh · 10–20 yrs · up to £4,500
Our son is seven and ready to come off the lead rein. He is a capable little rider but has had one fall and lost some confidence, so temperament matters far more to us than looks or breeding. Ideally something that has already taken a child off the lead rein and will look after him while he finds his feet again. Happy to consider an older pony.
Being honest about lost confidence attracts the right pony, not the flashiest.

Pony Club all-rounder wanted for two children to share
13.0–14.0hh · 8–16 yrs · up to £6,000
We are after a sensible all-rounder for our two children, aged nine and twelve, to share. They both do Pony Club — rallies, mounted games, a bit of showjumping and the odd hunter trial. The pony needs to hack out alone and in company, load reliably and be sane enough that the younger one can ride it too. Not looking for anything sharp.
A shared pony has two riders of different ability — say so.
Example
Stepping-up pony wanted for a competitive rider
13.2–14.2hh · 7–14 yrs · up to £9,000
Our daughter is eleven and has outgrown her first pony, both in size and ability. She jumps 80cm confidently and wants to move up. We are looking for something with real scope that is still kind and forgiving — she is keen but not fearless. A pony with a competition record would be ideal so we can see what it has actually done.
Naming a jump height tells sellers exactly where the rider is.

Family pony wanted — child and adult to ride
13.2–14.2hh · 6–16 yrs · up to £5,500
We would like a native or native cross that my daughter (ten) and I can both ride. Mostly hacking, a bit of fun ride and beach riding in the summer. Needs to be strong enough to carry me at around eleven stone, good in traffic and easy to keep — we have limited grazing so a good doer would suit us. Fell, Dales, Highland or a cob type would all be considered.
Mentioning rider weight and grazing saves everyone a wasted journey.

Companion pony wanted — good home, no riding
Any height · any age · up to £800
Our elderly mare has lost her field companion and is unsettled on her own. We are looking for a small companion — no riding required, and we are happy to take something retired or with a manageable condition, provided we know about it upfront. Good grazing, field shelter, and they would stay with us for life.
Companion homes are genuinely wanted — and often hard for sellers to find.
