Edinburgh and the Lothians combine Scotland's capital with genuinely good surrounding countryside, including the Pentland Hills, which offer proper hill riding within a short drive of the city centre. It is the most professionalised part of Scotland's pony scene — good facilities, established competition yards and a strong Pony Club and riding club network, not unlike the home counties around London.
Prices reflect that: capital-city land and livery costs are the highest in Scotland, and commuter pressure on grazing close to Edinburgh is real. As with London, many buyers based in the city end up searching a little further out into Fife, the Borders or East Lothian's more rural stretches for better value while keeping a reasonable commute to see the pony regularly.
