The Welsh Section B is the riding-pony cousin of the Section A: a little taller (up to 13.2hh), more refined and athletic, with beautiful movement and real ability. They make superb second and Pony Club ponies, shining in showing, working hunter, dressage and jumping while keeping the sensible Welsh temperament that makes the whole family so popular with families in the first place.
With more scope comes more sparkle, so a Section B usually suits a child who can already ride confidently — walk, trot, canter and a bit of jumping — rather than an absolute beginner starting from scratch. Look for honest schooling detail and a temperament that genuinely matches your rider's current ability, not their ambition. As with the Section A, they are good-doers that need sensible grazing management, and their finer build means good farrier and dental care matter for keeping that famous Welsh movement sound.
Welsh Section Bs appear in our price sample: asking prices ranged roughly £2,995–£5,500 through the middle half of the market, with a typical asking price around £4,000 (based on 14 adverts, read 6 August 2026). These are asking prices from other UK marketplaces, not confirmed sale prices — a proven show or Pony Club record generally commands a premium over an unschooled youngster.
