County Londonderry, in the north-west of Northern Ireland, combines the Sperrin Hills inland with an attractive coastline around Portstewart and Portrush, giving a genuine mix of hardier hill grazing and easier coastal and lowland pasture. It has a solid local Pony Club and riding scene, if somewhat quieter than the Belfast-centred counties to the east.
Its north-western position, around the city of Derry/Londonderry and the Roe Valley, means it is a genuine distance from Belfast and the eastern counties, so a Londonderry-based search is often more self-contained than one based further east, with buyers less inclined to casually widen across the whole province. Ponies here reflect the varied terrain — hardier types off the Sperrins alongside gentler coastal and lowland ponies.
