Anglesey — Ynys Môn — is an island off the north Wales coast, connected to the mainland by two bridges, with a strong farming tradition and a genuine native pony culture including Welsh sections and Section D cobs bred on its flatter, more fertile ground than much of upland Wales. The island has its own agricultural show culture and a tight local equestrian community where sellers and buyers often already know of each other.
Being an island does not mean isolation in the way Orkney or Shetland is — the bridges make it a straightforward, if slightly longer, drive from north-west England or the rest of north Wales. It does mean the choice of ponies for sale at any one time is smaller than on the mainland, so patience and a wider search into neighbouring Gwynedd may pay off if you cannot find the right pony locally.
