Gwent sits in south-east Wales along the Severn and the border with Gloucestershire, and its geography does a lot of the work for a buyer: the M4 and the Severn crossings put it within easy reach of Bristol, the Cotswolds and the wider south-west, so a Gwent pony is genuinely convenient for a much wider catchment of buyers than the county's size suggests.
It has decent hunting country toward Monmouthshire and the Welsh borders, alongside more everyday grazing in the lower Usk and Wye valleys, so you will find both produced, competed ponies and simpler native and cob types. Good road links mean this is a sensible county to widen a search into if you are based in the west of England and struggling for choice locally — the drive is straightforward and the M4 corridor keeps journey times honest.
