The West Midlands is Birmingham and its surrounding conurbation — Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Solihull — and is the most densely urban county in the Midlands, so genuine grazing within it is scarce and sought after. Most families here look to the fringes, into Warwickshire, Staffordshire or Worcestershire, all of which are close and well connected.
What the West Midlands does have, thanks to its huge population, is an extensive network of riding schools and Pony Club branches serving families without their own land — a genuinely good way to build experience before committing to ownership. If you do find a pony kept within the conurbation itself, expect tighter grazing and higher livery costs than the surrounding rural counties, and ask about turnout accordingly.
